Want to improve your acute migraine treatment beyond that of Nerivio alone?
Nerivio has been repeatedly proven effective on its own in aborting or relieving migraine symptoms. Yet our team constantly develops new features to further improve your therapeutic benefits. Together with leading neurologists, we created a unique in-app behavioral feature, called Guided Imagery, Education and Relaxation (GIER). GIER is designed for optional use in conjunction with Nerivio’s Remote Electrical Neuromodulation (REN) treatments.
A study has shown that helping our Nerivio users relax and learn about their migraine and REN treatment during a migraine may have an additional therapeutic effect, beyond that of Nerivio alone, in relieving pain and helping patients return to function.
Ready to GIER UP?
What is GIER?
GIER is an in-app audio-visual software module of guided behavioral therapy and education, designed for optional use in conjunction with the REN treatments. It is comprised of 3 types of relaxation techniques and 2 types of pain educational content.
3 relaxation techniques:
Diaphragmatic breathing
Progressive muscle relaxation
Guided imagery
And 2 types of pain education content on:
Migraine biology
Mechanism of REN treatments
Why engage with GIER?
It is well established that behavioral interventions such as diaphragmatic breathing, guided imagery and relaxation practices have preventive benefits for people living with migraine.
In a prospective, matched-controlled, real world study (published in the peer-reviewed medical journal Pain Medicine), data from 170 adult patients, mostly people with chronic migraine (having 15 or more days with migraines per month), were compared between those treating with REN-only and those simultaneously GIERing up their REN treatment (85 per each group).
First, results from the REN-only group were very similar to those previously reported in randomized controlled trials and in large real-world evidence studies, repeatedly proving that Nerivio is effective in mitigating migraine symptoms on its own.
Second, results from the group that simultaneously treated with both REN and GIER displayed a higher proportion of patients achieving therapeutic benefit, suggesting that GIER’s behavioural therapy during a migraine attack may have an additive therapeutic effect. Specifically, more users in the REN+GIER group achieved consistent pain relief and consistent functional improvement than those treated with REN alone. These differences between the groups were statistically significant.
This study helped confirm that relaxation activities can provide comfort as well as help reduce muscle tension, encourage circulation, and generally move the body and mind into a more comfortable and relaxed state.
Expanding migraine patient’s toolbox with features such as GIER, incorporated into the Nerivio app, can be utilized to enhance the therapeutic benefits of neurostimulation by calming the nervous system while at the same time addressing wellbeing.
How to GIER UP?
To engage in the guided imagery, education and relaxation (GIER) technique, simply click on the “GIER UP!” button on the top right hand of the Treatment screen.
You may switch to an audio-only mode by selecting “Switch to audio mode” under the video. You can easily return to the video mode by clicking the sound-wave icon on the “GIER UP!” button.
The video can only be played during the Nerivio treatment, in parallel to Nerivio’s REN stimulation on your arm.
