What is migraine?

Migraine is a neurological disease characterized by intense, recurring headaches. The headaches are often on one side of the head, pulsating , with moderate or severe intensity, and aggravated by routine physical activity. Migraine headaches are associated with nausea/vomiting and/or sensitivity to light (photophobia) or sensitivity to sound (phonophobia). In some cases, the headache is proceeded by reversable sensory symptoms called "aura", such as visual disturbances of flashing lights, zigzag patterns, or blind spots, parenthesis or sensory or motor disturbances. Other common symptoms associated with migraine are neck pain, dizziness or vertigo, fatigue, and confusion. In some cases, migraine attacks may present migraine symptoms with no head pain. Migraine attacks can be debilitating and significantly impact an individual's quality of life and approximately 10% of people around the world live with migraine.

There are several types of migraine, including:

Three most common types of migraine:

  1. Migraine without aura (common migraine): The most prevalent type, characterized by moderate to severe headache pain without sensory disturbances.

  2. Migraine with aura (classic migraine): Includes temporary visual, sensory, or other disturbances that precede the headache phase. Most common types of aura involve flashing lights, blind spots, or facial or hand tingling.

  3. Chronic migraine: Defined as having headaches on 15 or more days per month, with migraine attacks on at least 8 of those days, for more than three months.

Additional, less common, types of migraine:

  1. Hemiplegic migraine: A rare type involving temporary paralysis or weakness on one side of the body. It can be familial (genetic) or sporadic.

  2. Retinal migraine: Characterized by temporary vision loss or blindness in one eye, typically followed by a headache.

  3. Migraine with brainstem aura: This type of migraine involves neurological symptoms originating from the brainstem, such as vertigo, double vision, or difficulty speaking.

  4. Vestibular migraine: Associated with vertigo and dizziness, with or without headache.

  5. Abdominal migraine: More common in children, involves abdominal pain, nausea, and vomiting, with or without a headache.

  6. Status migrainous: A severe and debilitating migraine attack lasting more than 72 hours. It often requires medical intervention to relieve symptoms.

  7. Menstrual migraine: Occurs in women in relation to their menstrual cycle, typically

starting before menstruation and lasting until the third day of bleeding.

Can I use Nerivio for menstrual migraine?

Can I use Nerivio if I am pregnant or breastfeeding?

A clinical study with women who were pregnant and used Nerivio for their migraine during their pregnancy and throughout three months postpartum found Nerivio to be safe, not increasing the risk of adverse pregnancy outcomes. Thus, Nerivio may offer a non-pharmacological treatment for women with migraine during pregnancy and in the months following delivery. Nerivio's effect on post-migraine symptoms

The postdrome phase of a migraine can leave individuals feeling drained, with a "hangover" sensation that includes weakness, fatigue, and cognitive difficulties. In clinical trials, Nerivio demonstrated a significant reduction in pain and additional symptoms associated with migraine and other symptoms associated with a migraine. Pain relief was experienced in 2 out of 3 (67%) patients two hours after using Nerivio, and pain freedom was experienced by 37% of patients.

Expanding indications

Nerivio has not been evaluated in patients with conditions other than migraine at this time.
