Remote Electrical Neuromodulation (REN)
Nerivio easily wraps around the upper arm and is controlled with an app. It uses non-painful stimulation to harness the natural power of the brain and controls migraine pain and symptoms without drugs, needles, or disruption.
The science behind Nerivio is rooted in the principle of Remote Electrical Neuromodulation (REN). Nerivio works from a remote location by sending messages via the nerves from your upper arm up to the brain to stop the migraine by initiating a natural pain-management response. This activates the body’s Conditioned Pain Modulation (CPM) system, activating the descending pain inhibitory pathways. Descending inhibitory signals travel to the trigeminal cervical complex, where serotonin and norepinephrine are released. Nerivio’s activation of the body’s endogenous analgesic system has a global impact on pain.
How extensively has Nerivio been studied?
The efficacy and safety of Nerivio has been studied in more than 15,000 migraine patients in 15 studies and 21 publications to date:
3 Randomized controlled trials
3 Open-label trials
2 Survey studies
7 Real-world evidence studies
5 Post-hoc analyses
1 Health economics study

A brief overview of Nerivio studies’ results
To treat a migraine attack, a randomized controlled clinical trial revealed a significant reduction in pain relief and other symptoms associated with a migraine. Pain relief was experienced in 2 out of 3 patients 2 hours after using Nerivio. Pain freedom was achieved in more than 1 out of 3 patients. In both cases - significantly more than from using a placebo device. Side effects experienced were mild and similar to those seen in the placebo (inactive) groups. [1](Yarnitsky et al., Headache, 2019)
For migraine prevention, a randomized controlled clinical trial has shown a reduction in the average number of migraine days over the course of a month. Over half of the patients reduced the number of moderate to severe headache days by at least 50%,. Both results were significantly larger than the changes from using a placebo device. Those using Nerivio experienced no device-related side effects. (Tepper et al., Headache, 2023).
How fast does Nerivio work?
For acute treatment of migraine, clinical trials demonstrated that two-thirds of Nerivio patients achieved significant pain relief at 2 hours post-treatment.
For migraine prevention trial, patients who used Nerivio every other day had a reduction of 4 migraine days after two months of treatment, with a significant reduction kicking in as early as two weeks from treatment initiation.
Is Nerivio safe?
Nerivio is safe and very well tolerated. Clinical studies in adults using Nerivio for acute treatment of migraine demonstrated that 96.4% did not report any device-related side effects. Side-effects were not severe or serious, temporary, and local (not systemic).
In the prevention study, no device-related side effects were experienced for those using Nerivio every other day.
Was there a reduction of migraine-associated symptoms in clinical studies?
Nerivio has been shown to be significantly more effective when compared with a placebo in the treatment of migraine. Clinical trials demonstrated a significant reduction in pain relief and and in migraine associated symptoms (including sensitivity to light, sensitivity to sound, nausea).
