3 pillars for preventive migraine treatment

πŸ“† Treat every other day

Treat every other day A key for successful prevention is adherence to the treatment. Establish a routine that suits you and choose the best time of the day for you. You can combine the preventive treatment with an existing routine, for example right before bed when you read a book or during your lunch break.

πŸ’ͺ Set an Intensity that is strong but comfortable

Use the + to increase the intensity until it feels strong yet comfortable and not painful. If it's too strong, use the - once or twice to reduce the intensity to a level that is comfortable. Setting the intensity below this point could decrease the efficacy of the treatment. In clinical trials, levels below 20% were found to be less effective by the majority of patients.

βœ… Complete a full treatment

For effective results, complete the full 45-minute treatment.

For prevention, does Nerivio need to be used at the same time every other day?

For migraine prevention, the treatment should be performed every other day, regardless of migraine status, i.e., whether you have migraine or not on the day of the treatment. Treatments can be performed at any time during the day. However, for best results, it is important to pick a time that is convenient for you and stick to it.

🧠Did you know? The Nerivio app offers treatment reminders to help you never miss a treatment. All you need to do is activate notifications on the app and set the reminder for the time that suits you.

πŸ’‘Tip: You may want to consider using Nerivio as part of your nighttime routine. That way, if you get a migraine during the day and use Nerivio, you don't need to treat it again at night.

Using your current Nerivio for prevention

If Nerivio has been prescribed for you for the acute treatment of migraine, please consult with your healthcare professional to determine if Nerivio for prevention is right for you.

Combining acute and preventive treatment

Nerivio can be used to prevent migraines and treat migraine attacks as follows: use Nerivio every other day to prevent migraine and as needed to treat every migraine.

For example, if you choose to perform a preventive treatment every Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday:

  • If you got a migraine attack on one of the days you are performing preventative treatments (e.g., Monday) - you can either conduct two treatments or one for both. Say your attack stroke in the morning, and your prevention routine is to treat in the evening. By treating in the morning to abort your attack, you already treated that day and there's no need to treat again in the evening. If your prevention routine is to treat in the morning, and you treated as need, and then had an attack later in the day - you can go ahead and treat again for the day, to abort your attack. Then, continue your preventative treatment on Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday as usual.

  • If you got a migraine attack on one of the days you are NOT performing preventive treatments (e.g., Sunday) – perform a 45-minute treatment when the migraine attack starts. Then, continue your preventive treatment on Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday as usual.

What happens if you miss a prevention treatment?

For migraine prevention therapy, treatment should be performed every other day, regardless of whether you have amigraine attack on the day of treatment. If you miss your planned treatment (either by a few hours or a day or more), simply apply a treatment as soon as possible.

Afterward, you can return to your normal treatment plan.

Using Nerivio acutely? How does that affect your preventive routine?

If you have already used Nerivio to treat an active migraine attack on the day you were supposed to use it for prevention, you do not need to treat it twice. The same treatment you used to abort your migraine attack will count towards your prevention treatment.

How to use Nerivio for preventive treatment on the same day it was used for acute treatment.

To summarize, if you use Nerivio to treat an active migraine attack before your prevention treatment is due, there is no need to treat twice (the treatment conducted to abort the attack will count towards your prevention as well).

If you use Nerivio for prevention and later in the day have a migraine attack, you can use Nerivio again to stop the attack (meaning two treatments in one day).

If you get a migraine on one of the days you are NOT performing preventive treatments, perform a 45-minute treatment when the migraine attack starts. Then, continue with your preventive treatment as per your regular schedule.
